Handmade Soap, Bath & Body Care Products

FAQs

What are the benefits of handmade soap?
The benefits are endless! Most "soap" that you find in your big-name stores are actually not SOAP! The commercial soap industry removes the glycerine that is naturally produced during the soapmaking process so they can make a profit selling it. Glycerine has tremendous moisturizing properties. These companies are using the glycerine to make other moisturizing products that you will find yourself needing because their "soap" dried your skin out! So, the biggest benefit of handmade soap is that it contains glycerine and is very moisturizing. Once you use handmade soap, you'll never go back to store-bought again!

Is there lye in my soap?
Oooh, that's a tricky one! Simply stated, you can't have soap without lye! It is the reaction (saponification) between the lye and the oils that create soap. However, once the saponification process is complete, there is no lye left in the soap. The lye (with the oils) has been converted into soap. There is "soap" out in the market that advertise as containing no lye. This means one of two things: (1) they are referring to the fact that there is no lye remaining in the product you are buying or (2) the product they are trying to sell you is not actually "soap." MUCH of the "soap" found in local stores is not actually soap. If you look closely they are not even called soap, they are called beauty bars or cleansing bars, deodorant bars, etc.

What are essential oils and how are they different from fragrance oils?
Essential oils are derived straight from plants, seed, nuts, flowers, etc. Fragrance oils are man-made.

How is handmade soap made?
Handmade soap is made from simply combining oils with lye. Well, it sounds simple enough. There are an endless number of oils to experiment with to come up with the perfect recipe! The most commonly used oils are palm oil, coconut oil and olive oil.
